Western Sydney University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Uttar Pradesh Government (GoUP) to set up a campus in Greater Noida.

Subject to the relevant regulatory approvals, Western Sydney University will be the first foreign university in Uttar Pradesh.

“We are deeply committed to expanding our presence in India and passionate about taking Western Sydney to the world. We are preparing our application for this stand-alone campus, which will be focussed on creating impactful solutions for sustainable agriculture and food security, with teaching, research and technological innovations specifically tailored for India’s agritech, technology and other allied industries,” said Professor Deborah Sweeney, the University’s acting Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Sweeney added that the MOU is an important milestone for the University as it continues with its planning to establish a presence in India. “We are pleased to sign this agreement heralding the next chapter for the University and its transnational education programs.”

The University plans on offering programs in computer science, business and engineering and negotiations are underway to locate the campus in the Greater Noida Authority Building, planning to commence program delivery in 2026 once the approvals are in place.

Western Sydney University has a long-established partnership with UEH University in Vietnam, with its campus in Surabaya Indonesia, which opened in late 2024. The University’s planned expansion to India is a major strategic commitment which strengthens its position as a global education leader.
