India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has stated that the government is aware of the F-1 visa issues of Indian students in the United States and is looking into the matter. The Trump administration’s recent crackdown and visa revocation have created an atmosphere of uncertainty regarding the future of international students in the US, many of whom are Indian. According to the latest Open Doors Report on International Education Exchange 2024, over 3.3 lakh students from India travelled to the US for higher studies.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “We are aware that several Indian students have received communication from the US government regarding their F-1 visa status. We are looking into the matter. Our Embassy and consulate are in touch with the students.”
Since January, a total of 55 Indian nationals have been deported by the US. The deportees returned to India via Panama. According to reports, more than 1,000 international students have had their legal status or visas revoked by the US administration in recent weeks. Several students have filed lawsuits against the Trump administration.
