IIT (BHU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with US-based Artificial Intelligence-focused higher education institute Saras AI Institute to offer a foundational eight week course – Powers of AI – as an open elective for IIT (BHU) students. The course is available to undergraduate students of all disciplines at IIT (BHU).
The course requires no prior coding or math experience and introduces students to machine learning, generative AI, deep learning and prompt engineering. Instead of traditional exams, students will work on real-world projects that will prepare them for careers in the AI space. The course also aims to build a foundation in responsible use of AI.
Saras and IIT BHU will also co-develop a sophisticated AI-powered assessment tool titled AI Evaluator. The tool allows real-time student progress tracking, delivers deep learning insights and simplifies evaluations — a key requirement for a digital world.
The agreement signed also lays the foundation for flexible learning pathways for students and establishes a credit exchange programme. This will enable students from all disciplines to pursue a Minor in AI online, explore Associate Degree opportunities and earn industry-recognised AI certifications through Saras AI Institute’s digital campus.
The collaboration also includes joint research opportunities, guest lectures AI hackathons, workshops and representation at IIT BHU-led academic and industry events.
“Our partnership with Saras marks a significant step towards integrating cutting-edge AI education across disciplines, ensuring that every student—regardless of their field—is equipped to contribute meaningfully to India’s digital and economic transformation,” said IIT (BHU) Director Prof Amit Patra.
Anil Singh, Founder and President of Saras, adds, “Our collaboration with IIT BHU is not just about teaching artificial intelligence; it’s about empowering every student—across all disciplines—with the tools to shape India’s destiny in the AI era.”
