Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has suspended its academic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Inonu University in Turkey due to national security considerations.

The partnership, signed earlier this year, was aimed at fostering research and student exchanges. The two JNU schools involved in the MoU are School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies and School of Computer and Systems Sciences.

This move follows nationwide anger against Turkey for supporting Pakistan during the recent conflict between India and Pakistan. After JNU, other Indian universities such as Jamia Millia Islamia, Lovely Professional University, Maulana Azad National Urdu University and IIT Roorkee have also terminated collaboration agreements with institutions in Turkey and Azerbaijan.

The Association of Indian Universities has written to Indian universities asking them to sever ties with institutions in Pakistan, Turkey and Bangladesh.
